As Frederic area youth learned in 2005, the most difficult - and yet most rewarding - place in the world to do a mission project is at home right here in Frederic. With that awareness, youth from Frederic area churches are joining together for the Home Field Advantage project. HFA is a youth mission project serving Frederic and the surrounding area beginning July 27.

The goal is to share the love of God in practical ways with people right here in their own community. Special attention will be given to the needs of the elderly, disabled or otherwise disadvantaged.

During the Home Field Advantage week, youth will be involved in a variety of service projects including yard and house work, light construction, painting, window washing, planting, firewood preparation, garbage removal, etc.

The Block Party

The week will conclude on August 3 with a community block party to which everyone from the area is invited. There will be free food, games, and entertainment. (More)

Who's Involved

Many of Frederic's churches are in on the project. Also involved are many area businesses and individuals.

And We’re Off!

Sunday, July 27th, 2008 at 11:59 pm

Well, here we go. The group is together, orientated, through the first night of VBS, and settled into the motel. We don’t start any of our service projects until tomorrow, so today gave a chance to get to know each other a little and help out with VBS. Here is the planned schedule for the next five days, in case you’re curious:

7:00 AM- Wake up, get ready, eat breakfast
8:00 AM- Leave motel for Frederic EFC
8:15 AM- Personal devotions
8:30 AM- Worship and teaching time
9:30 AM- Assign projects for the day. Go out to serve.
12:00 Noon- Lunch on site
1:00 PM- Back to work
4:00 PM- Wrap up work project for the day.
5:00 PM- Supper
6:00 PM- Assist with VBS games
6:30 PM- VBS opening session and classes. Help where needed or be involved in sports camp.
8:00 PM- VBS end time. Free time until heading back to the The Lodge.
10:00 PM- Everyone to their rooms
10:15 PM- Rap Session
11:00 PM- Lights out

Kali, our main photographer, took roughly 436 pictures tonight! There are some really amazing ones of both HFA and VBS, but we only have room here for a few from the HFA side of things:

After the orientation everyone drew “Barnabas Buddies”. (After Barnabas, you know, in the Bible.) This is a secret buddy to be encouraging throughout the week. We have a board with envelopes for everyone in the project to leave notes or anything else that fits. Here’s Cameron attempting to find his.

Then came supper - pizza! Each night after we’re done with our service projects we’ll be eating at one of the other churches in Frederic.

Josiah as “Dusty Chaps”, his alter-ego in the VBS opening skits.

The sports camp tonight played a pretty intense game of ultimate frisbee. Here’s a shot of Dan and Alex going at it. In case you don’t know, sports camp runs from 6:15-8:00 just like VBS and is for 7th-12th grades. Make sure you wear something that can get grass stained.

Brady and Joel being… Brady and Joel. (Brady has is gloves on for a black light puppet song.)

We’ll do our best to get everyone on here at some time or another. For now, here are a couple more random shots:

Please continue to pray for us throughout the week. We really appreciate it!
