As Frederic area youth learned in 2005, the most difficult - and yet most rewarding - place in the world to do a mission project is at home right here in Frederic. With that awareness, youth from Frederic area churches are joining together for the Home Field Advantage project. HFA is a youth mission project serving Frederic and the surrounding area beginning July 27.

The goal is to share the love of God in practical ways with people right here in their own community. Special attention will be given to the needs of the elderly, disabled or otherwise disadvantaged.

During the Home Field Advantage week, youth will be involved in a variety of service projects including yard and house work, light construction, painting, window washing, planting, firewood preparation, garbage removal, etc.

The Block Party

The week will conclude on August 3 with a community block party to which everyone from the area is invited. There will be free food, games, and entertainment. (More)

Who's Involved

Many of Frederic's churches are in on the project. Also involved are many area businesses and individuals.

Tuesday: Dancing with Trees

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008 at 11:59 pm

This morning we got everyone together for a quick picture before heading out. (It’s a little small. Here’s a larger version.)

Today was another very fun- and work-filled day.

Project updates:

The Depot project is coming along. We can’t seem to find any pictures, but the reports are that most of the scraping and priming is done. Due to a mixup, we won’t actually have the paint until Thursday morning so we’re getting everything ready so we can really hit it “in ernest” then.

A job we’ll be on all week involves doing many odd jobs around a couple’s home just outside of Frederic. It includes (1, Crysta, who’s so pro she doesn’t even need to look at what she’s doing) staining a deck, (2, Katie supervising the chainsaw) cutting down trees growing too close to the house, and (3, Kali) scraping a repainting.

Another group worked to clear furniture, valuables, and trash from an old house that is going to be demolished. The below picture shows several of the guys taking care of the bigger pieces of furniture in the attic. Since the house is coming down anyway, we just cut out a large hole around the window and passed things off the roof or lowered them with a skid-steer.

After a energizing dinner at St. Dominic’s it was off to help out with VBS. Many of the HFAers are also on the puppet team and play a big role in the opening and closing programs of the night. It can sometimes get a little tight behind the stage…

Today’s random shot is Jimmy eating a sucker. Yup.

We leave you with what is widely considered to be one of the best bits of media captured today:

Sunburn. Neck. Ouch.
