As Frederic area youth learned in 2005, the most difficult - and yet most rewarding - place in the world to do a mission project is at home right here in Frederic. With that awareness, youth from Frederic area churches are joining together for the Home Field Advantage project. HFA is a youth mission project serving Frederic and the surrounding area beginning July 27.

The goal is to share the love of God in practical ways with people right here in their own community. Special attention will be given to the needs of the elderly, disabled or otherwise disadvantaged.

During the Home Field Advantage week, youth will be involved in a variety of service projects including yard and house work, light construction, painting, window washing, planting, firewood preparation, garbage removal, etc.

The Block Party

The week will conclude on August 3 with a community block party to which everyone from the area is invited. There will be free food, games, and entertainment. (More)

Who's Involved

Many of Frederic's churches are in on the project. Also involved are many area businesses and individuals.

Monday

Monday, July 28th, 2008 at 11:59 pm

Well the first very full day of work is over. It was great weather, with a high around 80 degrees and lots and lots of sun. Bryan (hey! that’s me!) and Kali are starting to wonder what they got themselves into with this whole blogging thing. Hopefully you can make some sense of the ramblings that follow.

Some trivia via Pastor Greg: Did you know that…

1) Out of 25 youth, only two have first names that begin with letters between N and Z.
2) Guys outnumber girls 3:1.

A little something for you, parents: The leaders have committed themselves to brushing up the group’s manners. During orientation we talked about and practiced such virtues as introducing both yourself and others to new acquaintances, taking off sunglasses when talking, not wearing hats in church, and how the guys should ask to take a bag from a lady. (Hint: It sounds something like “Please let me take your bag.”) We also all sing a little song after every meal to thank whoever made it for the “Food that we have ‘et”.

Here are some pictures from the day and a little more about what’s going on:

This morning, the youth worship team lead the group in a few songs before Tom Kelby, our speaker for the week, really challenged us about our view of how big God is when studying Exodus 33.

One of the work teams painting a shed at an elderly man’s house in Lewis.

One of our larger projects is repainting and touching up the Frederic Depot Museum. Today consisted of lots and lots of paint scraping. There may have been a “What have we gotten ourselves into?” muttered right before the first picture below was taken.

A quick nap before supper, which was amazing spaghetti back at Frederic EFC.

We finished up the day with VBS and swimming back at the motel.
